NetworkManager (again) and Xubuntu

I now recommend Xfce to n00bs yet undecided on exactly which WindowManager they need.
NetworkManager seems to be very temperamental, if you do use that Gnome bloatware!

On Xubuntu, edit the file
/etc/xdg/autostart/nm-applet.desktop

and comment out this line
AutostartCondition=GNOME3 unless-session gnome

like so
#AutostartCondition=GNOME3 unless-session gnome

Now this Gnome applet, that everyone has become so dependent on, will behave better, even if you do not use gnome.

Update: Every gnome-related update seems to break previously fixed issues. This particular solution does not seem to be reliable!

Alternatives: wpa_gui, connman-ui, dhcpcd-qt, dhcpcd-gtk.

Update: I now use and recommend wpa_gui.
