like so

Now this
Gnome
applet, that everyone has become so dependent on, will behave better, even if you do not use gnome
.Update: Every gnome-related update seems to break previously fixed issues. This particular solution does not seem to be reliable!
Alternatives: wpa_gui, connman-ui, dhcpcd-qt, dhcpcd-gtk.
Update: I now use and recommend
wpa_gui
.
