Installing Gentoo: too much diskspace used

how can i reduce the clutter? my main aim in moving to gentoo was to have and maintain a stable, lean & clean system.

i have a fully updated working gentoo install with lxqt.

$ df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev             10M  4.0K   10M   1% /dev
/dev/sda3       8.0G  4.8G  2.5G  66% /
tmpfs           303M  484K  303M   1% /run
shm             1.5G     0  1.5G   0% /dev/shm
cgroup_root      10M     0   10M   0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/sda5        51G  376M   49G   1% /home
tmpfs           3.0G   16K  3.0G   1% /tmp
tmpfs           3.0G     0  3.0G   0% /var/tmp/portage
$ sudo du -sh /usr/portage
1.8G    /usr/portage
$ sudo du -sh /usr/src
840M    /usr/src

without portage and kernel sources, my root fs takes up 2.16gb diskspace, and i'm still trying to prune it down ;) lol you guys must think me crazy

This topic led me to so many other suggestions.
